Dean Kurtz Construction completed construction of a fully operational space with critical utility infrastructure at the -4850' level of the Sanford Underground Research Facility. The new space houses the Compact Accelerator System for Performing Astrophysical Research (CASPAR), and a new clean room for Black Hills State University.

After getting the contract for the new Liberty Center in Box Elder, DKC wasted no time getting to work. In the early months of the project, we quickly completed dirt work and engineered fill so we could move onto concrete and focus on getting steel structure built. Steel went up in mid-November which gave us a great window to begin closing in the building for winter construction. Our crew worked incredibly hard to stay on time and on budget with this build as there were so many other aspects besides the Liberty Center that went into this Box Elder project.

Dean Kurtz Construction finished the Maintenance Support Facility at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in the spring of 2021. Sanford brought us the concept of creating an all in one research facility that could be built from the ground up at their current location. After months of strategic planning and getting a blank canvas to start building, DKC was finally able to implement our over 50 years of experience in general contracting and begin building this facility. The SURF is now fully operational and has begun their work into researching the soil and minerals from the Homestake mine.

TranSource Truck and Equipment is a new facility dedicated to the sales, service, and maintenance of heavy-duty trucks and machinery. This monumental undertaking involves a comprehensive 24,000 square foot interior build-out. The foundation of excellence began with site grading. Expansive parking lots with concrete paving, curbs, and gutters maximize functionality, providing ample space for the trucks and machinery that call this facility home. The inclusion of an impressive wash bay ensures that every vehicle leaving the facility does so in peak condition. A highlight of the project is the fully-equipped service center with trolley cranes and truck lifts and a quick service bay that ensures rapid turnarounds, minimizing any downtime. Beyond the operational areas, TranSource’s new facility also includes modern office spaces and conference rooms. The exterior display island will serve as a showcase destination for TranSource’s top-of-the-line fleet.

The UPS Distribution Center project involved site development of a 5.3-acre site with new construction of a Pre-engineered Metal Building, located at 2540 Rearden Court, Rapid City, South Dakota.  Site development included concrete paving, asphalt paving, landscaping to include a 727’ retaining wall.  The newly constructed building is comprised of a 51,000 sq. foot package sorting and distribution center with 20 overhead doors and 54 interior parking spaces for delivery trucks with raised concrete loading docks, an integral shop and a 2 story office area with a customer service counter and package hold.
