Dean Kurtz Construction in association with the design firm of Leo A Daly was recently awarded a contract to design and construct a fully operational space with critical utility infrastructure at the 4850 level (approximately one mile below ground). The new space will house the Compact Accelerator System for Preforming Astrophysical Research (CASPAR). The project presents many challenges. Just accessing the worksite involves riding an elevator cage one mile down and then travelling horizontally .6 mile. Stay tuned to our newsfeed for more as this exciting project develops!
Below 3-dimensional model of the CASPAR cavern illustrates how the experiment will fit into the existing underground cavern one mile below ground.
