Construction work continues on the new Eddie’s Truck Center/Freightliner Dealership off of Exit 61 in Rapid City. The project began in the middle of last year and has been going smoothly. This new construction project has only been hindered so far by typical spring weather in South Dakota. Wind, rain, and snow storms have slowed down progress throughout the construction phase of this project, but overall, work is moving along nicely for the project.
The new Eddie’s Truck Center will replace the old one, located on Omaha Street. The project is three-quarters of the way done. The building shell is done and construction work crews are working on framing walls inside the building, as well as doing other site work outside the building shell.
According to project manager Kelley Kurtz, the main struggle they have had to fight on this project was the weather.
“The weather has been our biggest struggle,” he said. “There have been lots of little things, but not one big obstacle other than the weather delays.”
The next steps for this new construction project are to get all of the interior work complete, Kurtz said. Once that is done, they can hand the building over to the owner so they can move into it and start working out of it.
The construction work is scheduled to be completed in October and the building is scheduled to be opened by October 26th. Once completed, the building will feature an indoor showroom and sales floor, two-story office structure, parts warehouse, car wash bay for washing trucks, parts retail area, and an 18,000 square foot service shop.
